After dropping his first two tracks “Carolina” and “More Life”, and then going on to premiere “4:22” on GRM Daily, East London producer and vocalist Rayf was still very much quite unknown and mysterious. However, along with a brand new Mellow Grime track – “Girls” – Rayf has revealed plenty of details about who he is, his process and exclusive details about his upcoming project ‘Monkey.’ I was lucky enough to be able to meet up with Rayf to carry out a photoshoot, so you can all see who he is too!
Rayf reveals his real name to be Ralph, being 25 years old and that his influences as James Blake, Trim, Jme, Erykah Badu and more. Giving exclusive details of his upcoming project ‘Monkey’ to writer Sam Cole, he reveals that it will be a story about love and heartbreak and that the new track “Girls” is the first glimpse into what ‘Monkey’ will be like.
On ‘Monkey’, Rayf says:
“That’s all I’m working on at the moment. It’s a concept project, a story, a story about love & heartbreak. I took myself back to events I had gone through or witnessed and tried to capture the moods, the feelings during those events. Right now all that’s on my mind is making sure my vision for it is translated in the best way possible. It will be my first full body of work and you can only make a first impression once. This may be the only time I have the listener’s attention I have to make it count. I really wanted to contribute to the scene and this is my chance, all I can say from what is completed so far is its nothing you have heard before and it’s definitely a journey I can’t wait for you all to go on.”
