Alexis Sánchez was dropped from Arsenal’s starting line up for Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday after having an “angry exchange” with his team-mates and storming out of training in the build up to the game.
After leaving the training session, Sanchez was confronted by his team-mates in the changing room and the players had to be separated as tension ran high.
When asked about the 28-year-old absences from the team on Saturday, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said he left the Chilean out for “tactical reasons”.
Wenger added, “I don’t deny Alexis Sánchez is a great player, a decision like that is not easy to make.
“You have to stand up for it. I wanted to play two players who were strong in the air and then bring Sánchez on in the second half.”
Sánchez was introduced at half-time and provided the assist for Danny Welbeck’s goal but it was not enough as Arsenal lost their third league game out of four, leaving them one place outside the Champion’s League places.
The attacker has contributed to 26 goals in 26 games in the Premier League this season, 17 goals and nine assists, but his contract is up in the summer of 2018 and there is no indication that he will sign a new one.
