By now you will no doubt be familiar with Reuben Dangoor’s incredible artwork. He’s the man behind the amazing Legends of The Scene series. The series saw grime royalty re-imaged as 18th century nobility and has garnered wide spread attention. Since then Reuben has been busy, dropping more great artwork inspired by England’s recent endeavours at the World Cup, and he designed the artwork for D Double E’s long awaited album Jackuum.
His latest exhibition which has been commissioned by Three; is in the same vein as his previous works, where he gives classic styles a modern twist. Mobile phones have become pervasive in our lives, most of us don’t go anywhere without our trusty hunks of metal and plastic. Reuben Dangoor’s lastest series entitled Portr8 will be a celebration of this and will offer a look at what some of history’s most iconic figures would have looked like through the many filters of Snapchat and Instagram. Check out some of the images featured in the exhibition below!
This is Reuben’s take on a classic 16th century oil painting called “Girl With a Pearl Earring” – he’s added the popular Snapchat flower crown and given her the all too familiar pouty pose.
If Elizabeth I was an Instagram influencer this is what she might look like, complete with YSL Handbag and the super trendy French Bulldog.
We’ve got man like Henry here, dripping in sauce with his Ray-Bans, custom Yeezys and obviously a cold chain with his initial on; not to forget his well trimmed beard.
