Police searching for Richard Okorogheye have said they have found a body in a pond in Epping Forest, Essex.

The body has not yet been identified but police have said the family of Mr Okorogheye have been informed of the development in the search.

Two weeks ago on March 22, Mr Okorogheye, a student at Oxford Brookes University, left his family home in Ladbroke Grove, west London and was reported missing two days later.

Last week police extended their search to Essex after it emerged the 19-year-old took a taxi from west London to Loughton, with CCTV footage capturing him walking towards Epping Forest at 00:39 on March 23.

Mr Okorogheye’s mother, Evidence Joel, previously said her son had spoken of “struggling to cope” with university pressures and had been shielding during lockdown as he has sickle cell disease.

He did not take his medication or any money when he left home.

The Met Police have said enquiries are underway to identify the body which has been discovered today (April 5) and Mr Okorogheye’s family are being supported by specially trained officers.
