After an eventful, subliminal promo-stunt-filled BET Awards appearance and being crowned the best-selling artist of all time, Rihanna has hit the headlines again with the super explicit self-directed mini movie/video for “Bitch Better Have My Money”. WARNING: It’s a lot.
The Backstory…
If you thought that the video was just RiRi being her bad ass self, you would be right (obvi) but we were surprised to hear that it is part based on Ri’s real life past situation!
Back in 2008, unbeknownst to Rihanna, her then management took Ri’s personal funds to cover the costs of all projects around ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’, as Def Jam had cut their investment.
Following this Ri also filed a lawsuit against accounting firm Berdon LLP, on the grounds of mismanagement of her money. She had $11 million in cash at the start of 2009, and at the end of the year was left with $2 million!
Turns out the firm had forgotten to let the Queen of the Navy know that her ‘Last Girl On Earth’ tour was actually losing money, and were taking a massive 22% of her revenue, over quadruple the standard 5% usually taken.
It’s probably pretty safe to say Rih screamed “Bitch better have my money” in court and sued for $35 million, but settled at $10 million.
At least it was settled in court and not by the hands of RiRi herself- after seeing this video they’re probably grateful too!
