Remember the days of BBM’s, broadcasts and pins? Well, those days are long in the past, as Blackberry have announced they are to stop making new phones.
This news is bound to upset a lot of people, as BBM became a crucial part of many people’s teenage years, something of a cult phenomena for our age group.
Blackberry have been losing ground on their close competitors like Apple and Samsung for years now, so the decision to stop designing their own isn’t exactly a surprise.
They will continue to be involved in smart phone production however, instead outsourcing the development to other partners.
In a statement, Blackberry CEO John Chen said, “The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners.“
Blackberry’s main focus now will be on producing software.
