Last night (March 16), the winners of the 2021 edition of the Royal Television Society (RTS) Awards were announced and some big names scooped up some big prizes!

The ceremony took place virtually and was hosted by television and radio presenter Jonathan Ross on the RTS website.

During the night, it was revealed that the dynamic duo Big Narstie and Mo Gilligan won the award for Best Entertainment Performance for their Channel 4 chat show, The Big Narstie Show.

After hilariously experiencing some technical difficulties, Mo Gillian and Big Narstie accepted the award, with Mo saying: “Big ups everybody that watches the show and’s enjoying it, hopefully we’ll be back soon on your TV screens.”

Also winning big on the night is the icon Michaela Coel who took home awards for Best Writer and Best Actor (Female) for her roles in I May Destroy You – which also picked up a separate award for Best Mini-Series.

“Thank you so much RTS for this award, this is for writing,” Coel said as she began her acceptance speech via video call.

“Writing alone, as I do, means there is little time for anything else.”

Coel also used the opportunity to shine a spotlight on Turana Burke who pioneered the #MeToo movement.

“Sexual assault is at the forefront of public discourse,’ Michaela added. “I suspect her bravery and resilience may have contributed to the bravery and resilience I mustered to write these scripts, that broadcasters and producers mustered up to support me through an unusual and difficult process.”

Famalam star Gbemisola Ikumelo was also awarded last night for Best Comedy Performance (Female), with the judges saying “she’s supremely entertaining…she just has funny bones. When she’s on screen you simply can’t take your eyes off her.”
