Taking his artistry to an unprecedented level of recent is one of Lagos’s current hitmakers in Ruger. He’s been embarked on his BlownBoy Ru world tour for the majority of 2025, and with every continent he’s checked into his passport, he’s been showered with praise for iconic performances.

After a myriad of intimate, fan-dedicated shows across the states, Ruger has laid down a marker to the masses when it comes to catching the eye. The tour is built on the foundation of BlownBoy Ru, his latest masterpiece which he perceives as a diary of growth. The project explores a mixture of sounds which cater to every one of his listeners and showcases as his best work to date.

As Ruger currently tackles the European leg of the tour, we caught up with the Nigerian sensation to speak on the new album, the uniqueness of a Ruger concert, career highlights and much more.

Ruger! Can you tell us more about the new album BlownBoy Ru and what your listeners can expect?

BlownBoy Ru is me in full bloom. It’s the freedom album. I didn’t hold back, whether it was talking my truth, experimenting with sound, or just having fun. You’ll hear Afrobeats, Dancehall, R&B, even Fuji! It’s like a diary of my growth. Expect bangers, vulnerability, madness, everything!”

How long was the process for the project?

“I’d say about a year in the making. Some songs came from moments on the road, others from lockdown mode in the studio. I don’t rush music, I let it find me. I knew I wanted this album to sound like freedom, and that takes time.”

Which song did you find yourself having the most fun with whilst recording?

“I’d say “Toma Toma” with Tiwa. That session was mad vibes, pure energy, no filter. The beat dropped and I just flowed easy on it. That’s one track I didn’t overthink. We were just having fun and you can hear it. Queen Tiwa killed it.”

You’ve now completed your U.S leg of the tour, how are you finding the experience so far?

“It’s been incredible. The love in the U.S is real. Every show has its own magic. Seeing people in Houston, Atlanta, Dallas screaming Yoruba lyrics back to me? That’s a different kind of joy!”

We’ve seen that you like to involve the crowd on tour. How important is it to make sure your fans are treated to an intimate show?

“Very important. I don’t want people to just watch me, I want them to feel me. We share energy. That’s why I talk to them, dance with them, sometimes even bring them on stage. A Ruger show is not for standing still.”x

In comparison to your 2023 release Ru The World, how has Ruger evolved as an artist during this time?

“With Ru The World, I was proving I had range and not just hits. BlownBoy Ru is me more confident in that range. My song writing is deeper, my delivery is sharper, and I’m more intentional with my messages. I’m not just showing I can do it, I’m owning it.”

What would you say has been your career highlight so far?

“Honestly, there are so many. From topping charts to sold-out shows but watching Asiwaju and then Toma Toma go viral. It’s insane going to various countries and watching people sing these songs back to me. From Nigeria and all the countries in Africa, to the U.S to Germany all the way to Australia!”

What is something you still want to achieve in your career?

“A Grammy, definitely. Not just for me but for my sound, Afro-Dancehall. I want to tour stadiums globally too and I want to help bring more talented young Nigerians into the limelight.”

What has been the best advice given to yourself on your musical journey?

“To stay grounded. Fame can make you forget who you are. I remind myself daily to stay real, stay focused, and stay grateful.”

Who are three artists currently at the top of your playlist?

“Vybz Kartel, Adele, and Ruger. That’s vibes, soul, and fire all in one!”

What advice can you give to those who are looking to break into the music industry?

“Believe in your own sauce. No one will take you seriously if you don’t first. Also, get your business right, protect your sound, and stay consistent. It’s not overnight. But if you’re good and real, your time will come.”Ruger is currently in Europe for his BlownBoy RU tour. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.co.uk/ruger-tickets/artist/5396366
