London is well and truly back. Despite the chaos in the entertainment industry over the last two years due to Covid-19, events reminiscent of a time before a pandemic are here. One such event was Sam Wise’s recent pop-up show at the Prince of Peckham. With capacity limited to 100 people, the scene was set for a unique, intimate event in which Sam and his devoted fans would share a genuine experience.

It did not disappoint. Flanked by fellow House of Pharaoh’s compatriots such as Blaze YL, Bandanna, and Danny Stern, Sam Wise proceeded to shell a 30 minute set of his biggest hits. Playing tracks largely from his recent tape Free Game, Sam’s trademark effortless charisma and swagger were on full display. “Cheque Came” and “First Little Rollie” particularly went off, making a local Peckham pub feel like the 02 as the crowd bounced in unison.

I saw Sam recently at the 02 Academy in Brixton, and it was a truly special night. Serving as the culmination of a nationwide tour, with special guests such as Jesse James and Knucks appearing, it felt like witnessing history in action. However, even that cannot compare to the raw atmosphere generated at the Prince of Peckham on Friday. With nothing but positive vibes and excellent performances all around, it was a fitting celebration for a great artist’s discography and journey.

This show was the second installment in a new series run by the Prince of Peckham titled Peckham Renaissance. The genesis of the idea is founded in providing a weekly platform to showcase some of the best talents in London. Running until the 11th of February, there are numerous up-and-coming artists well worth checking out, ranging from the likes of Scuti to Kwaku Asante. If you want to take in some great music in a relaxed atmosphere, be sure to head down to the Prince of Peckham on a Friday.
