A second woman has now died after being injured in the crowd crush at Asake’s concert in Brixton, south London.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that 23-year-old Gabrielle Hutchinson, who was working as security at the concert, has sadly passed away on Monday following her injuries.
The tragic news follows the death of 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo, of Newham, who died in hospital on December 17.
Ms Hutchinson and Ms Ikumelo were two of eight people to be taken to hospital with injuries following the incident on Thursday night (December 15) where a “large number of people” attempted to gain entry into Brixton’s O2 Academy without tickets to attend Asake’s concert. The Nigerian singer was forced to stop the show after performing three songs.
One other women, aged 21, remains in a critical condition.
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, said in a recent press conference, “My thoughts remain with everyone affected by this dreadful incident. It’s vital that the investigation into what happened concludes as soon as possible.
“City Hall are in contact with venues and authorities across London to ensure nothing like this happens again.”
Asake had also taken to social media to send his “sincerest condolences” following the news of Ms Ikumelo’s passing.
