Back in June, government guidelines regarding coronavirus made it illegal for people from different households to have sex but now that decision has been reversed – but only for couples in ‘established relationships’.
Last week, the government updated its guidelines to include exceptions to the rule that people who do not live together must socially distance when they meet up – with an ‘established relationship’ being one exemption. The guidance does not describe what is meant by ‘established’.
The updated guidelines come after sexual health charity Terrence Higgins Trust reported that 84% of people abstained from having sex with people they don’t live with during lockdown. The charity also urged people to stay vigilant by washing hands before and after sex, and by wearing a face mask and avoiding face-to-face contact during sex.
