On Sunday (November 15), BBC premiered the first instalment of Small Axe and its Oscar-winning director, Steve McQueen, recently joined Joy Francis via video call to speak about the important new series.
Episode 1 of Small Axe is centred around the true story of the The Mangrove 9, which focuses on institutional racism in the Met Police and the Black Power movement in London in the 1970s, and during his talk with Joy Francis, McQueen details the importance of telling such stories. He also speaks on what he learnt during filming, casting decisions, upcoming episodes and more.
