In recent years, videos going viral have been the main source in exhibiting policy brutality. With this being found to be useful, a shortcut has been developed to auto-record encounters with police.
The shortcut begins once you say “Hey Siri, I’m getting pulled over” and from there, it begins the process. It will dim your phone, pause any music and start recording from your front-facing camera. As well as this, it will send your location and a copy of the video to your emergency contact.
Robert Petersen, the creator of the shortcut, published it in 2018 but has since seen a huge interest following the protests after the police killing George Floyd.
Petersen says the shortcut is essentially the same as the body cameras worn by police officers. He says, “It seemed to me that if you’re getting pulled over it couldn’t hurt to have a recording of the incident.”
To get started the iPhone must be updated to at least iOS 12. Then, visit this link on your mobile device and download the shortcut. At the moment there isn’t an Android version but there are similar shortcuts on the Play store.
