This is insane – beware if you’re afraid of heights. American skydiver Luke Aikins is now the first person to jump from 25,000 foot (7,620m) with no parachute, this time landing safely in a 100ft x 100ft net.
42-year old Mr Aikins has done more than 18,000 jumps in his life, and yesterday reached speeds of 120mph as he fell for two minutes into Simi Valley, southern California.
“I’m almost levitating, it’s incredible,” he said after the jump. “This thing just happened! I can’t even get the words out of my mouth.”
Aikins admitted that he was close to cancelling the jump because he was being told to wear a parachute for safety, but he was worried it would’ve made his landing more dangerous due to the extra weight. Luckily for him the organisers lifted the ban minutes before the jump.
