Stoke-on-Trent has received the unfortunate title of the “UK’s Smelliest City”, based on the sheer number of odour complaints made to the City Council.
With 860 complaints sent to Stoke-on-Trent City Council last year, the area has racked up more grumbles than any other city in the UK. Not the best achievement.
According to the Council, over 90% of complaints were linked to smells coming from Walley’s Quarry Landfill Site, located in Newcastle-under-Lyme, with one resident likening the stench to both rotten eggs and burnt tyres. Sounds like enough to have locals pinching their noses.
The City Council have promised that they’ll be working hard with the County Council to resolve this issue.
