Snapchat is one of all of our most used apps, and now Snapping might become even easier. Snapchat have just released the details of their newest project, a pair of glasses with a built-in video camera which allows you to share footage automatically with friends.
With the Spectacles you can record continuous 10-second video by pressing a button on the top-left corner of the glasses once, or record up to 30 seconds with two presses. Video will be recorded in a circular format – the same shape of the glasses – and you can then send it to your friends via Snapchat.
Unfortunately your videos can’t be sent through 3G just yet though, but Apple iOS devices can send footage over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, while Android videos only through Wi-Fi.
The Spectacles come in three colours and will cost £100 ($129).
In a blog post, Snapchat said that “Circular video plays full screen on any device, in any orientation, and captures the human perspective with a 115-degree field of view.”
Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel points out that the glasses are only meant to be a “toy” and not a serious product, used to have “fun”, and particularly to stop the app’s 150 million daily users holding their phones like a “wall in front of [their] face[s].”
Unusually for apps, Snapchat also announced that it’s changing its name. Very soon the app will simply be titled “Snap” – basically what we call call it anyway.
