The biggest hot desert in the world, and it has just been hit by snow for the first time in 40 years.
The monumental moment for the Sahara desert was caught on camera by amateur photographer Karim Bouchetata from the town of Ain Sefra in Algeria, which sits in the Atlas Mountains in the northern edge of the desert. The last time the area saw snow was in 1979, and this year the snow sat on the dunes for just a day.
The photographer told The Independent, “Everyone was stunned to see snow falling in the desert, it is such a rare occurrence. It looked amazing as the snow settled on the sand and made a great set of photos.”
