It’s no secret that people stunt on social media, and although we all know that everyone does it, that doesn’t seem to stop us from feeling bad about our peers doing better than us. Now, a recent study has revealed which social media is the all time worst when it comes to our mental wellbeing.
The study, conducted by The Royal Society of Public Health and the Young Health Movement, surveyed 1500 people ranging from 14 to 24 and asked them to rank the top social media networks in relation to 14 mental health issues.
Instagram turned out to be the most detrimental to users self esteem, with Snapchat coming in second. Out of the five networks included – Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube – only Youtube came away with a positive result.
The chief executive of the organization which conducted the study said of the results, “It’s interesting to see Instagram and Snapchat ranking as the worst for mental health and well-being. Both platforms are very image-focused and it appears they may be driving feelings of inadequacy and anxiety in young people.”
