With the 2017 Grammys around the corner, Chance The Rapper – who’s nominated for a record breaking seven awards for his third solo project Coloring Book – is thinking of ways to revolutionise next year’s Grammys.
With the changing landscape of the music industry, it’s important that awards ceremonies reflect these tectonic shifts and move with the times. The playing field has diversified immensely, no longer can we simply dish out awards based on record sales alone, there is much more that needs to be taken into consideration.
Chance has recognised this and has claimed that from 2018 onwards projects that are released on SoundCloud will be eligible for Grammy nomination.
This will of course open up the prestigious award for a whole host of independent artists, and make the Grammys a more inclusive and credible awards show.
