Yesterday the Spin for St Vincent Fundraiser hosted by White Yardie and Claira Hermet took place and proceeds are being managed by SV2G.
The fundraiser page on GoFundMe reads, “The Spin for St Vincent Fundraiser hosted by White Yardie and Claira Hermet is raising funds to go towards two campaigns supporting grassroots movements responding to the disaster on the ground.
“The campaigns are run by volunteers and support local grassroots groups getting supplies immediately on the ground. They are also working on medium and longer term strategies to support the farmers who have lost their livelihoods and get children back into education.”
Yesterday Julie Adenuga, Alicai Harley, Zeze Millz, JME, Swarmz, Jamal Edwards and more took part in the spinning challenge.
Thanking the participants on Instagram, White Yardie announced that over £10,000 was raised.
The eruption of the La Soufrière volcano in St. Vincent and The Grenadines was the first since 1979 and over 20,000 or close to one-fifth of the population were evacuated from their homes.
Ashfall contaminated clean water supplies on the island and officials were worried that the disaster would lead to an intensified Covid-19 outbreak.
The UK-SCG Friendship Trust partnered with the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines High Commission to set up a Go Fund Me page to raise monetary contributions for those in need and the website for the High Commission for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines also has a page that lists ways you can donate.
