A pigeon suspected of being a spy from China has been released from police custody after 8 months.
The pigeon, that reportedly had rings tied to its legs and scripture printed on its body that resembled Chinese script, was accused of being a spy pigeon sent by the Chinese by authorities in India.
An investigation found that the pigeon was not a spy bird but instead, a racing bird from Taiwan that was accidentally flown to Mumbai. After eight months, the charges were dropped and the bird set free.
The use of birds as spies or war colleagues is not new – with birds being used in many world wars to carry messages and support soldiers.
