Staff picks is back for another again this week, bringing you a selection of some of the tracks the GRM team feel you should be listening to.

Kamakaze– “Sick”

A chilling beat provides the basis for this track, “Sick” is an eerie banger that combines talent from Massappeals and Kamakaze. Straight off of their joint EP, is this one – it sees Kamakaze spit in a slower calculated manner. With a intense but catchy hook, this one is full of content.

“Kam Dog came back this week by releasing a second collaborative EP with Massappeals. The whole EP is wavey, although for me the standout track is undoubtedly the closing track “Sick”. The production sounds like it could have easily been lifted from a spaghetti western film score, with Kamakaze delivering some spine-tingling storytelling” – Seth P (Features Editor) (@writersblog88)

J. Cole – “Middle Child”

J. Cole continues to make waves this year, “Middle Child” is the latest from him. With a smooth bouncy flow, Cole spits over a robust beat with bars that as usual get us thinking but at the same time are braggadocious. A taste of what’s to come from him.

“This record is J.Cole fully sounding hungry again, with boasting bars and over a great T-Minus production! Cole needs to do a full project with actual producers and fully concentrate solely on the bars and if he does that, he can truly put himself back in the convo with who’s the greatest of this generation” – Mehul Bhatt (Writer) (@thisismehul_)

Conway The Machine – “Fentanyl”

With a gripping intro, this one speaks volumes. Conway The Machine is raw and real on “Fentanyl”, laying down hard hitting bars. The style and flair of this track are reminiscent of earlier hip hop, ticking boxes for all the old hip hop heads.

“Buffalo rapper and Griselda Records representer Conway comes through with some cold visuals for “Fentanyl” the first track on his latest project” – Mike Spyrou (Writer) (@spizzgeta)

Summer Walker – “Wasted”

At only 2 and half minutes long, this one leaves you wanting more. Featured on Summer Walker’s latest EP, is “Wasted”.  The budding R’N’B songstress plays with the idea of love as an addiction in this track nonetheless it is still beautifully melodic.

“Summer’s Clear EP doesn’t have a bad track but this one resonated with me straight way. Instant vibes.” – Shante Collier-McDermott (Writer) (@shancolls)

Goldlink – “Got Muscle” feat. Peewee Longway & WaveIQ

Goldlink enlists Peewee Longway and WaveIQ for this one. With WaveIQ on the production, the instrumental intertwines several different aspects, making use of melodic piano tones and skippier segments where necessary, it is the perfect foundation for Goldlink’s style. “Got Muscle” can be described as a head bopping banger, it is both mellow and lyrically entertaining.

“Everything this guy releases is mad smooth. I reckon his next album will be a big one”.  –
Courtney Wynter (Senior Editor) (@cwynter_)

Yo Gotti – “Put A Date On” It feat. Lil Baby

Vibey from the onset, is Yo Gotti’s latest banger. This track sees Gotti link up with Lil Baby, one of hip hop’s faves from 2018. The pair bounce off of each other over a striking beat, both flexes their ability to switch up their flow effortlessly. A collab unexpected but appreciated.

“Yo Gotti has always consistently chosen instrumentals that perfectly embody the vibe of the American Southern hip hop sound and this track is no different. “Put A  Date On It” has all the necessary elements of the trap genre along with the added bonus of Gotti joining forces with rising star Lil Baby. Stay tuned, this song will be destroying club sets soon”–
