Stormzy’s stab-proof vest from his iconic Glastonbury set is now up for a major design award.
The Banksy-designed vest is one of 74 nominees up for the prestigious Beazley Designs of the Year prize which will be hosted by the Design Museum in Kensington.
Stormzy wore the eye-catching vest – which Banksy described as “capable of stopping bullets up to .45 calibre and is fully stab proof, yet not machine washable” – when headlining Glastonbury last year with his unforgettable set.
Speaking on the Awards, Tim Marlow – the director of London’s Design Museum – said: “This year’s exhibition explores key moments in design from January 2019 to the moment global attention shifted in late January 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic took hold — the selected projects respond to urgent questions of inequality and censorship, health and sanitisation, and the ongoing possibilities of design and technology.”
News of the vest’s nomination for the design award comes a year after the garment became available to purchase on Banksy’s online store.
