Further to announcing his debut U.S. tour last week and in the midst of working on his forthcoming debut album, Stormzy has announced that he will be following the footsteps of Kanye West
and speaking at the prestigious Oxford University later today.
But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a student at Oxford to watch Big Mike’s talk- The Oxford Guild, the UK’s largest and oldest professional society est. 1897, will be streaming the talk live on their Periscope channel (@TheOxfordGuild
) for those who cannot make it.
Chairman, Abbas Kazmi, said on the event: “We are delighted to be welcoming to the Oxford Guild such an exciting and high profile a speaker as the one and only Stormzy and expect it to be a fascinating and memorable event and are thrilled that he will be doing an exclusive performance for those attending! We’ve had a phenomenal reaction from the student body so far with over 1,200 students balloting for places in under 24 hours of announcing it. It is very rewarding to see the hard work pay off, and following on from previous successful events, such as Kanye West’s talk last year (which went global and has widely been described as one of the biggest speakers that Oxford and any society in the UK has seen in the past decades), Lil Jon’s fantastic address in May, Nina Kravitz’s event in November and Martin Garrix just a week ago in February, this is yet another great coup for the Guild which I am proud to see continuing to reach ever higher heights”.
And Stormz, rightly, is equally as excited to be speaking at Oxford, “It’s an honour to be asked to speak at such a prestigious establishment. In school, all my teachers and my mum were super routing for me to study at Oxford, I picked music as a career choice and this didn’t sit too well with them! So to be asked to come down and speak to the students there is a true tale of destiny giving you the right cards.”
As if Big Mike wasn’t busy enough, he will be embarking on his U.S. and Canada tour later this month. Find more info and ticket links below.
