A man has been shot dead by police after an incident described as terrorism in Streatham in South London.
Earlier this afternoon, an unnamed man who allegedly wore a suicide vest stabbed two victims on busy Streatham High Road in London.
Streatham High Street is a busy and thriving retail area. The street houses market stalls, several big chain shops and is close to several schools.
In a statement on Twitter, the Metropolitan Police said, “A man has been shot by armed officers in Streatham. At this stage it is believed a number of people have been stabbed. The circumstances are being assessed; the incident has been declared as terrorist-related.”
As the investigation has just begun, little information has been provided at this time.
Both Boris Johnson and Sadiq Khan took to Twitter to express well wishes for the victims and thank the emergency services for their response.
The police have asked people to avoid the area for the time being.
