A student, LGBT activist has been shot dead by police at a university in the American city of Atlanta.
Police were called to Georgia Tech university on Saturday night (16 September) after learning that Scout Shultz, a fourth-year engineering student, was armed with a knife.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the officers at the scene gave Shultz multiple orders but the student was “not cooperative and did not comply”.
After refusing to cooperate with officers, Shultz is said to have continued to advance which resulted in an officer firing at the 21-year-old, who later died in hospital.
No police were injured during the incident.
Georgia Tech’s Pride Alliance, the society in which Shultz was the president of, has since taken to Facebook to offer their condolences.
