We’re sure that at some point you’ve all heard some sort of horror story about a fast food chain.
Whether or not it’s the alleged “chicken brain” found inside a piece of chicken in a Colchester KFC, or the countless stories of rats being present in your local nameless chicken shops, these kinds of stories feed our desire to find out what really goes on behind the counters of our favourite fast food places.
So it’s no wonder then, that people were chomping at the bit when a Redditor who claimed to be a manager at Subway did an AMA (ask me anything) on the site. Although fortunately for the Subway fans amongst us, the Redditor did not reveal any overly gory details like the aforementioned chicken shop fiascos.
Instead, he answered a range of questions on what filling is the freshest and which one he would recommend that we ought to avoid.
He advised to avoid the Chipotle Chicken and Teriyaki Chicken. Why? “Chicken is given a two-day shelf life, once in the counter. However, these two [sandwiches] bypass this and get four days, and can get a little stinky,” he wrote.
“I’d recommend anything else, Subway (at least my Subway) is very strict on quality control and dates. Steak is probably the freshest, and safest.”
As well as revealing the best and worst meat options, the Subway worker (using the username SubwayworkerUK) also divulged what the best value for money subs are.
He wrote, “Meatball Marinara, Chipotle Chicken, Tikka Chicken, Spicy Italian, and BMT”, all of which are £3 or £5 with a drink. The shift manager also gave readers an insight into a little known fact, that between 7pm and 9pm, the subs are 20% cheaper!
Although no truly grisly details were revealed in the AMA, it still makes for an interesting read on what not to buy.
