A teenager has been fined £10,000 for breaking coronavirus restrictions and holding a house party with 50 guests.
The 19-year-old from Lenton was given the hefty fine on Friday evening just two days before the Government’s new restrictive Rule of Six methodology comes into play.
The police had the power to fine organisers of events with more than 30 people £10,000 as well as the ability to offer attendees fines of up to £100.
From Monday though, all gatherings of more than six outside of COVID secure venues are set to be banned.
On behalf of Nottinghamshire police, Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cooper said, “”As we have demonstrated here we are not afraid to use the full powers we have and we will not tolerate those who are deliberately put other people’s lives in danger.”
Cooper also said that the party host was a “clear example of a householder who deliberately flouted the rules without a care for anyone else”.
The host of the party will have to appear in court if he fails to pay the fine or if he wishes to contest the penalty.
The chairman of the Police Federation added in a statement, “We are in the grip of a deadly pandemic and we have seen cases increasing over recent weeks. Policing is under pressure like never before, but my colleagues will give enforcement notices if they feel it’s appropriate, and we make no apology for doing so.”
