After being arrested back in 2018 under racketeering charges, Tekashi 6ix9ine was facing 47 years behind bars but the New York rapper is set to be released from prison in under 72 hours, according to reports.
New York attorney Moe Gangat – who has been following the case closely- took to Instagram to suggest he has seen paperwork which states Tekashi 6ix9ine may be released this Wednesday (December 18th).
Speaking in an Instagram video, Gangat said: “Look for Tekashi to get out this Wednesday, December 18 with a sentence of time served. When it’s all said and done, he’s likely to have served just under one year in federal prison.”
He added: “The way federal sentencing works is the government tells the judge what sentence the person should get. Here, the government hasn’t asked for any sentence. When the government doesn’t ask for a sentence, what they’re saying is time served, no sentence.”
DJ Akademiks, a close associate of 6ix9ine, has took to Twitter to clarify some of the rumours regarding the rapper’s release and charges.
“Where this rumor came from that the feds dropped every charge against Tekashi 69?? That’s FALSE […] One charge was dropped cuz it was deemed illegal,” he wrote.
“He’s suppose to be sentenced in 72 hrs though, for which most believe as per recommendations of probation dept n govt (prosecutors) he get TIME SERVED (immediate release).
“He can still get up to 37 yrs.. however judges usually follow recommendations esp for those who cooperate.”
Tekashi 6ix9ine is due to return to court this Wednesday for his sentencing hearing where we’ll find out whether he’ll be released without further sentencing, or whether he will face a lengthy prison stretch.
