YouTube Originals has launched three new music documentaries, directed by some of the UK’s most exciting directors and talents.

In honour of Black History Month, YouTube Originals are spotlighting 3 directors, beyond a
month, beyond a moment. Ronita Awoonor-Gordon, Esther Asaolu and Cilla Lafayette each
took part in the Terms and Conditions Film School, a partnership between YouTube Originals
and youth-focused creative agency Livity, that offered a weekend of workshops for aspiring
filmmakers.

This film school initiative offered young people the chance to pitch their ideas for a mini spin-off documentary inspired by the Terms and Conditions documentary series.

As well as tips on storytelling and filmmaking, attendees like Ronita, Esther and Cilla were also offered masterclasses from some of the best in the business including the director and producer of Terms and Conditions: Deeper Than Drill, critically acclaimed director Nathan Miller and music photographer Zek Snaps who has photographed some of the UK’s top talents.

After pitching their ideas to a panel of filmmaking and creative experts, Ronita, Esther and Cilla are this year’s finalists. They were awarded funding to bring their music documentary to life in addition to a month of mentorship from one of the experts on the pitching panel.

Ronita’s main focuses are documentary and digital branded content – you may have seen the visuals she directed for kadiata’s track “Just Because”.

Ronita’s film is titled Terms and Conditions: The Finer Details and explores the synergy between music and the fashion world. Watch the film here.

Currently working as a freelance social media marketer and graphic designer, Esther’s future goal is to set up a multidisciplinary creative studio.

Esther’s film, Terms and Conditions: Queens Without Crowns, aims to shed light on women in UK rap and the issues they have faced on their come up. Watch the film here.

Storyteller Cilla has a background in theatre, music and dance and now brings her unique
interest to directing films.

Cilla’s Terms and Conditions: The Architects follows producers Jampz and SJO as they navigate their way through the music industry and drill culture. Watch the film here.

The Terms and Conditions Film School aims to spotlight and amplify the voices of up and coming Black filmmaking talent. Hosted on GRM Daily’s YouTube channel, Terms and Conditions: A UK Drill Story and Terms and Conditions: Deeper Than Drill both highlight the cultural significance of UK rap and drill music, with features from frontline artists such Offica, Mowgs, Crystal Millz, Kavo and more.
