Two men have died after a Tesla, which is believed to have been operating without anyone in the driver’s seat, crashed intro a tree and caught fire.
The incident happened on Saturday night (April 17) in Texas when a 2019 Tesla Model S was travelling fast and failed to navigate a turn before running off the road.
After emergency services extinguished the fire, one of the victims was found in the front passenger seat, while the other was in the back.
Harris County Precinct 4 constable said evidence suggests that “no-one was driving the vehicle at the time of impact.”
It is not yet clear if the Tesla’s driver-assist ‘autopilot’ system was being used at the time of the crash.
The case it still under investigation.
