So in a day and age where rape is considered one of the most heinous crimes to be committed by a person, following a false rape claim we have seen a former female TfL employee jailed.
On October 26, 2013 Comfort Yinusa, 23, claimed she had been raped and attacked by two males near a pub close to Liverpool Street, calling her boyfriend to collect her she then rang the police to report the incident.
But the events stated by Yinusa were found to be untrue, the next day she was taken to the Haven Centre (a specialist establishment for people who have been sexually assaulted) – but when medics attempted to examine her she refused and insisted she went home.
Then on November 1, 2013 Yinusa called the police to say she did not want to go ahead with the complaint. After being shown empathy with attempts of trying to understand the physical and mental effects she may face going forward, her lies were eventually exposed when Police confronted the victim on December 2nd with CCTV and phone evidence proving she had lied, this lead to her arrest turning Comfort from a victim to a suspect.
So what happened for her to make such a bogus call to the police? Yinusa was out partying in the area when she met an accountant and his friend when one of them offered to drop her home. They then went to Mc Donald’s where they can be seen on CCTV laughing and having a good time. After leaving the restaurant the accused had a small problem of remembering where he parked his car.
Leaving Comfort and his friend he then went on a 45 minute search for his vehicle, over that time he remained in contact via phone explaining the situation in which Comfort had become very agitated and angry. The driver returned but she grabbed her bag which he had been carrying and stormed off.
After being tracked by police, both men had to provide intimate samples, surrender their clothing and undergo a medical examination, they were charged and bailed for a total of 6 weeks which saw the case being dropped. It’s also believed Police spent over 100 hours investigating the case with forensic investigations alone costing £3,216.
Before being sentenced to 8 month behind bars the court heard that Yinusa had alcohol issues and would often use cocaine “as a crutch” for three years before the incident.
While revealing the punishment the Judge said “Those who make complaints of a serious sexual offence must expect, if they are found to be false, immediate custodial sentences. Such behaviour undermines the criminal justice system.”

If the police are called to a rape it’s more than likely that even if you didn’t do it you will still be subjected to the same treatment as if you were an actual rapist until proven otherwise.
It’s a chilling thought that one phone call from a women to the police with a cry of rape could land you in the cells facing charges!
And this was all caused by a 45 minute wait? CRAZY!!!
Let us know your thoughts.
