Welcome back to #GRMFreshestOut, the one-stop place for the hottest tunes of right now. In this week’s homegrown edition, our guy Griff as usual has presented the best tracks of the week, featuring superstars getting back to grime, as well as some experimental and exciting newcomers too. Check in and check out, what has turned out to be a really strong edition of #GRMFreshestOut.
Tinie Tempah ft. Jess Glynne – Not Letting Go
Kicking off this week’s choices is the latest release on the list. Tinie Tempah is a figure who’s been talked about a lot as of late, despite actually being that active musically. In the last week however, he’s dropped off his shot sending return “Peak” featuring Stormzy and Bugzy Malone which got heads talking and has now released what is expected to be the first single from his third album. This one is going to be heating up the charts this summer.
Krept & Konan ft. Jeremih – Freak Of The Week
Next up is another ‘song of the summer’ contender, “Freak Of The Week” from Krept, Konan and Jeremih. Over a typically bouncy DJ Mustard beat (assisted by K&K’s home producer ADP), the South London boys drop punchline after punchline, in between an irresistibly catchy hook from Jeremih. This song is a huge moment for the UK scene, with their ambitions to break the US obvious; however, the pair have managed to keep things distinctively English. We look forward to seeing this one bridge the gap across the pond.
Jesse James Solomon – We Do
Jesse James Solomon has been releasing songs onto his SoundCloud page for 9 months now, but it’s “We Do”, this new release that has really got our attention. Featuring slow-moving drums and an unusual vocal sample stretched across the track, Jesse’s honest and every-day sing-song lyrics induce a helluva lot of nostalgia. Expect big things from this guy!
Tinchy Stryder – Six 4 Stuff
I picked this new track from Tinchy as my choice for the #GRMStaffPicks this week, but it still warrants a place here. As I said in that article, there will be much debate about whether Cloud 9 Strydes is just jumping back on the Grime bandwagon because it’s hot right now or if he is simply returning to his rightful place in the scene, Either way, this song totally bangs.
Chip ft. Kano & Wretch 32 – Feeling Myself
One of the most polarizing men in the scene right now has finally let go of his ‘Believe & Achieve’ EP and the music is doing the talking. To celebrate, he’s unleashed the new visual for his Kano & Wretch 32 assisted track “Feeling Myself”. The video was created in conjunction with a KFC-sponsored initiative, which required it be produced, shot and edited in one hour. The results are finger lickin’ good. Pause.
