A reboot of the Popular 90s sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air is in the works.
According to reports, however, the reboot will not be a comedy but will instead be a gritty drama – inspired by a fan-made trailer which went viral last year.
The four-minute video – created by Morgan Cooper – re-imagined The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air as a gripping drama and has since racked up over 5.6 million views and even caught the attention of Will Smith, who played The Fresh Prince in the original series.
Now Smith and Cooper have teamed up to create a series based on the alternative trailer.
“Morgan did a ridiculous trailer for Bel-Air,” Smith initially said after seeing the trailer. “Brilliant idea – the dramatic version of The Fresh Prince for the next generation.”
The Hollywood Reporter has said Smith’s company Westbrook Studios will create the series alongside Universal TV, while it has also been reported that Netflix, HBO Max and Peacock are some of the platforms in a bidding war to stream the new series.
