Earlier this week a brand new trailer for new Netflix original The Get Down was released (watch here), and now we’ve been blessed with details of the show’s soundtrack.
The Get Down follows a group of teenagers as they bring hip-hop to New York’s Bronx, so it’s only fitting that the soundtrack features some of Hip-Hop’s veterans and some of the genre’s newer ambassadors, as well as some pop and R&B artists.
Aritsts include Nas, Miguel, Christina Aguilera, Zayn, Michael Kiwanuka, Leon Bridges, Jaden Smith, Raury, Grandmaster Flash, Malay and Nile Rodgers amongst others, and was executively produced by Nas and Baz Lurmann who directed the show.
Lurhmann hopes people will be inspired by the soundtrack, writing;
“This album is an introduction to the many musical genres and styles that can be heard in The Get Down, which is really a story of New York in the late ’70s, an incredibly fertile time of creativity amid chaos. While our production is a musical that embodies many classic hits, we also use contemporary sounds and techniques connecting the dots between then and now. My great privilege is to have associated with such a diverse musical community.”
All episodes of the show will be released on Friday 12th of August.
