ITV’s popular talent show The X Factor has been axed after 17 years on air.
The music competition first aired in 2004 and launched the careers of chart-topping acts such as One Direction, Little Mix, Olly Murs and Leona Lewis.
The programme last aired in 2018 when Dalton Harris won the show, leaving many wondering if it will return.
Now, following a report from The Sun that the show’s creator, Simon Cowell, has axed the show, ITV have released a statement.
“There are no current plans for the next series of The X Factor at this stage,” a spokesperson for ITV said.
The X Factor’s cancellation comes as Simon Cowell reportedly gears up to launch a new six-part series titled Walk The Line – a musical game show due to premiere on ITV later this year.
