Meta, the parent company of Facebook, is set to launch its new app, Threads, as a direct competitor to Twitter.
The app, currently available for pre-order on the Apple App Store, will be integrated with Instagram and screenshots of Threads reveal a dashboard resembling Twitter, with Meta describing it as a “text-based conversation app.”
This move marks the latest part of the saga of the ongoing rivalry between Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner Elon Musk, as the two billionaires even agreed to a physical fight in a cage match.
In contrast to recent moves from Twitter, it appears that Threads will be a free service without restrictions on post visibility, as seen in Meta’s app description on the App Store.
Mark Zuckerberg has a track record of adopting successful features from other platforms, such as Meta’s Reels mimicking TikTok and Stories resembling Snapchat.
Threads is set to launch this Thursday (July 6).
