The government is reportedly considering plans to create Tier 4 lockdown measures as part of the latest discussions to curb the spread of COVID-19.
Currently, there are three tiers of lockdown, Tier 1 (Medium), Tier 2 (High) and Tier 3 (Very High).
The tiers have varying rules about social contact but under all, restaurants and retail stores are allowed to remain open providing that they are able to facilitate social distancing.
Should Tier 3 restrictions and below not make a difference by mid-November, it is being reported that the government will then look to impose an additional tier of more stringent lockdown measures.
Tier 4 lockdown would likely see the closure of restaurants and all non-essential retail stores.
Merging together, of course, the restrictions already laid out by Tier 3, household mixing would be prohibited and pubs/bars would be closed.
Public transport will also be restricted to essential use only.
According to iNews, plans for circuit breaker lockdowns are also being considered alongside this additional tier.
