According to the Hollywood reporter, the filmmakers behind Tiger King are working on more big cat content following the success of the first series.
The docuseries, which dropped in March delivered more than 34 million viewers to Netflix as they became captivated by the one and only, Joe Exotic. Although he’s currently behind bars, Dr. James Liu, a wildlife veterinarian said work was underway for a follow-up episode.
The follow-up will reportedly be focused on Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, an entertainment duo most known for appearing with lions and tigers, before Horn was tragically mauled onstage by a tiger.
Shortly after the release of Tiger King, Eric Goode – the director – opened up on the production as he said: “I went into this to explore a different side of the animal world in terms of wild animals in captivity.
“After years with these subjects, the project moved in a different direction. Netflix is very adept at making binge-worthy television and with these larger-than-life subjects, that was pretty easy to do.”
He added: “However, my goal is and has always been the same, which is to raise awareness and help save the species.”
According to Liu, the follow-up would serve as a higher-minded corrective to the controversy viewers saw across all seven episodes. However, according to a spokeswoman for Goode Films, it’s “untrue that the direction is going in a more conservational route.”
