TikTok is ringing in the new year with its 2023 Year in Music, spotlighting the artists and tracks that shaped the platform over the past year.
In a noteworthy trend, 13 out of 16 number ones on the UK Official Singles Chart in 2023 had a viral moment on TikTok, emphasising the platform’s influence on music trends. Similarly, 13 out of 18 Billboard Hot 100 number ones were fuelled by significant trends originating on TikTok.
Lewis Capaldi claims the throne as the “King of TikTok”, securing the number one spot as the most-viewed UK artist in 2023.
UK rap also takes centre stage with “Sprinter,” a runaway hit by Dave and Central Cee, used in a staggering one million video creations on the app. Meanwhile, the platform celebrates the dominance of female talent, with seven out of ten breakthrough artists being women, spanning diverse genres from classical to D&B.
K-Pop continues its global reign on TikTok, with half of the top ten most-viewed global artists belonging to K-Pop groups, including heavyweights like BTS, BLACKPINK and NewJeans.
