Skepta has taken to social media to unveil the official trailer for his forthcoming film Tribal Mark.
The film will premiere on Wednesday 24th January before being released nationwide at Everyman Cinemas on Friday 26th January.
Tribal Mark will follow the story of a Nigerian immigrant to London, “exploring themes of youth identity and systematic oppression while filling the gap of a strong black hero character in cinema.”
Gabriel Kwasi Tedeku, Jude Carmicheal and Divine Okechukwu Echeazu as well as Joseph (Skepta) Adenuga will star.
This new film is a collaboration with Dwight Okechukwu and sees Skepta co-direct as well executive produce.
Tribal Mark is made of a 90 per cent minority ethnic cast as well as production team, and is the first film to be released from Skepta’s 1PLUS1 Production company.
On the film, Skepta said, “I’ve always wanted to get into making films, and now feels like the perfect time. We’ve been working on this project for a while, and it’s one that’s extremely important to me. It’s a story that many immigrants will understand and connect with, as it reflects a journey many have gone through – and this project is for them. Our goal is to expand this into a growing world of action and adventure.
“There are plans for TV shows and movies, and I hope that kids who watch it will come to see Tribal Mark as their new superhero. This has been a new experience for me, wearing many hats like producing, co-directing, and acting. I’m excited to keep moving forward with Tribal Mark and future projects with my team at 1Plus1 Production”.
2024 looks to be a busy year for Skepta, with the BBK alum also set to release a new studio album called Knife & Fork later this year. In 2023, Skepta alongside Jammer shared new music under the Más Tiempo umbrella.
