So either the biggest website in the world got hacked, or someone working at Google has got bare jokes.
Over the weekend, those using Google maps in the Manhattan, Fifth Avenue area may have noticed something a bit off-key. Trump Tower, the 58-story skyscraper that mainly houses commercial offices and is also where ol’ Don himself resides, magically appeared to users as “Dump Tower”.
People began noticing the recent change over the weekend with Twitter quickly filling up with screenshots and enough laughing face emojis. If you didn’t already know, Trump hasn’t got many fans on the internet, so the new name seemed more than fitting.
With all that social media promotion it wasn’t long till Google clocked onto the “mistake” and swiftly changed the landmark building’s moniker back to its original name.
The internet giant released a statement via Buzzfeed reading, “Some inappropriate names were surfacing in Google Maps that should not be, and we apologise for any offence this may have caused. Our teams immediately took action and have fixed the issue.“
The president-elect hasn’t made an official statement on the incident as of yet, but who’s guessing we’ll soon be getting an irate Twitter rant from the future leader of the free world?
