Politicians have a reputation for spreading misleading information related to their agenda on social media but now, Twitter is planning on highlighting their lies.

NBC News revealed Twitter’s plans by sharing images of what the changes would look like, displaying images of tweets from U.S politicians.

The leak from NBC shows one way in which Twitter is planning to label misinformation, including one method which flags a tweet as “Harmfully Misleading” with corrections underneath.

The flagged tweets would also be accompanied by the message: “Twitter Community reports have identified this tweet as violating Community Policy on Harmfully Misleading Information.”GRM Daily

It has also been reported the corrections would be assisted by fact-checkers and verified journalists on Twitter. The platform is also exploring a new Wikipedia-like feature titled ‘community reports’ in which other users would be able to leave feedback.

A spokesperson for Twitter confirmed the leaked demos, saying: “We’re exploring a number of ways to address misinformation and provide more context for Tweets on Twitter.

“This is a design mockup for one option that would involve community feedback.

“Misinformation is a critical issue and we will be testing many different ways to address it.”
