An Uber driver stepped above and beyond his duty last week, after saving a 16 year old girl from sex trafficking in California.
34 year old Keith Avila had not long started his shift as a part-time Uber driver when he picked up a passenger on Monday night. The girl, who he described as looking 12 years old, got into the car with two women.
En route to their destination – a Holiday Inn in Elk Grove, California – Avila was surprised and sickened as the two females gave the younger girl step-by-step instructions on what would soon take place.
As soon as dropping the passengers off, Keith called the police and began to live-stream on Facebook.
His heroic actions saw the arrest of Destiny Pettway, 25, and Maria Westley, 31, on charges of pimping and threatening a minor. The victim, a 16 year old girl who had runaway from home, was reunited with her family.
Keith Avila’s actions have received praise in his local town, as well as an Uber spokesperson saying in a statement, “What Keith did is incredible….We appreciate his quick response and professionalism in a difficult situation.”
