Almost losing its licence back in 2017 due to influx of public safety concerns, we are yet to see the ban of Uber in London as it now gets its licence renewed for a further two months.

TFL have stated whilst the firm relay all info in support of their case, Uber will be allowed to temporarily contain to operate and they will also have to adhere to new safety regulations for passenger safety moving forward. By November the renowned taxi service will have found out whether their 5-year licence will be renewed and if not will face the loss of their best European market.

With various other ride-hailing apps gaining traction the UK, its fair to say the public will still be able to get around with minimal inconvenience but with around 45,000 employees at Uber – it is those who would face the brunt of the company’s ban.

Uber’s general manager Jamie Heywood for northern and eastern Europe has expressed that the firm will liase closely with TFL to make sure they are getting any info needed. Others have expressed a more skeptical approach to the extension, claiming it leaves all round uncertainty.

Let’s see how the next two months pan out as we wait to see if London may or may not be an Uber-less capital.
