The first case of a new strain of Swine Flu has been found in the UK. A resident of North Yorkshire came into contact with a sick pig, and consequently tested positive for the disease.
This is a completely new strain, currently being dubbed H1N2, which can be passed from pigs to humans, although it is currently believed to be rare for it to be passed between humans. This is not to be confused with H1N1 influenza, which is a respiratory illness. It gained global attention in 2009 when it was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO), and resulted in the death of over 400 people.
Symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of seasonal influenza and may include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and fatigue. In most cases, the illness is mild, but it can be severe, especially in individuals with underlying health conditions.
