Universal Music AKA the biggest label in the world, have threatened to remove its huge catalogue of music from TikTok. The label boasts some of the biggest artists in the world on its roster, such as Drake and Taylor Swift.
The threat came in the form of an open letter that was shared online, in which Universal music listed a number of issues that had not been resolved that had driven them on the brink of removing music from the platform. Some of the key issues highlighted were around fair remuneration for artists and songwriters, safeguarding from the harmful effects of A.I and general online safety.
In the open letter, Universal Music accused TikTok of “trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music” and actively encouraging artist replacement by allowing AI generated content to continue to live on social media platform.
TikTok have since taken to the internet to release their own response to Universals open letter, take a read of that right here.
