“Triple-triple” Olympic champion Usain Bolt has just had one of his nine gold medals stripped from him, after one of his Jamaican teammates from the 2008 4x100mm relay has tested positive for a banned substance.

Nesta Carter was amongst those to fail a drugs test in the reanalysis of urine and blood samples from Bejing’s 2008 Olympics. He’s the sixth fastest runner of all time and ran the first leg of the Olympic final eight years ago.

But, last summer, reports emerged that Carter was on a list of 31 athletes who failed a retest of their doping samples which used the latest advanced technology to eliminate drug cheats ahead of Rio 2016.

Carter didn’t compete in Rio in the end and has been fighting to clear his name but, on Wednesday, the International Olympic Committee found that his sample had tested positive for prohibited stimulant methylhexaneamine.

All four members of the Jamaican relay team have had their medals taken from them, unfortunately destroying Bolt’s perfect record of winning the 100m, 200m and 4x100m races.
