With two separate projects unveiled in the past 12 months, consistency remains at the forefront for one of West London’s rawest rappers in W1ZZY.

Last week saw the anticipated Voice Of The 6 surface and the reception has been everything we expected. “I feel like in this music game, there’s a missing piece and once you listen to this tape, you’ll understand what the voice of the 6 really is”.

This is a 12-track project which resonates with every type of listener and bolsters star-studded features which include Blade Brown, Rimzee and K-Trap. Whilst it’s certain the streets have picked an ear to his sound; the external masses have now heightened his status as a rewarding summer is set to be on the cards.

Ahead of the release, we caught up with W1ZZY to discuss the new project, recording processes and the importance of staying consistent.

Firstly, congratulations on the release of Voice Of The 6! What can listeners expect from the project?

“Voice Of The 6! It’s just raw and authentic music. It’s a 12-track project with features on there. I feel like in this music game, there’s a missing piece and once you listen to this tape, you’ll understand what the voice of the 6 really is.”

How long was the recording process?

“I feel like when I decided I wanted to do a project at the start of the year, it kicked in from then. I would say it took 3-4 months to complete.”

This is your second project within the past year. Was there an importance to keep pushing new music out?

“Yeah, of course. With this game, the most important thing is your catalogue. There’s no other way to do it then to just drop music. If I’m dropping bodies of work, it’s just building up. Same time, I’m giving the fans what they wanted because they’ve been on me to drop!”

What’s the project rollout looking like?

“So far, I have a headline show lined up in August which I haven’t announced yet. If festivals come up, I’m doing that too.”

What’s your current go-to from the project?

“You know what, it depends on the weather and how I’m feeling! If it’s hot and it’s a nice, chilled day, I’d probably listen to “Get It Together” which features Figs0. That’s a feel-good song but it always depends on how I’m feeling.”

Was there an importance of making sure there’s a track for every type of W1ZZY listener?

“When I make my music, especially a project, I try to cater for everybody. People call me a trap rapper but not everyone might be able to relate to that. There’s music for women, people that don’t necessarily like rap but like the sub-genre of wave. I like to cater for different ears but to also stay on brand and not go mental with it.”

If you had to introduce a new listener to W1ZZY, which song would you play first?

“I would probably play “Voice Of The 6”.”

Where did the name W1ZZY come from?

“My name used to be K1, and some people were calling me K Wizzy. When I started rapping, there were a million people with the name K1. I thought that I had to change this somehow and stand out from the rest. I took the K off and changed the I with a 1.”

Being from West London, were there any local artists that you drew inspiration from?

“I’ll be honest, not really! West is a weird space in terms of rap. Growing up, I listened to Blade Brown a lot, but it was more American rap which I was listening to.”

Can you recall your first memory of being involved with music?

“One of my first memories of being involved in music was being with my cousin. He had a music studio in his house. When you’re with your older cousins and they’re rapping, you don’t want to say that you can’t rap! I remember the first bar I said was from a Blade song!”

What’s been the best advice you’ve received to stay successful within music?

“One was to stay consistent. To block the noise out, keep dropping music and to not get comfortable!”

Finally, what’s a bucket-list goal you want to achieve this year?

“To have my own headline show in a different country!”
