Westminster on Lockdown as man arrested outside gates

The Palace of Westminster has been reportedly put on lockdown as armed police deal with a man outside the Carriage Gates.

Passers by said that a large number of police responded and were present at the scene, closing the gates promptly. The events are unfolding right where the Westminster Bridge attacker killed a police officer.

A man in a grey hoodie has been detained by three police officers, with four or five armed men patrolling the area nearby alongside a police van and an ambulance.

Eyewitnesses said that the man was Tasered after shouts of “knife, knife, knife”, but these reports are yet to be confirmed.


Metropolitan have released the following statement: “At 11.10am on Friday a man was detained near to the Palace of Westminster. The man – aged in his 30s – was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife. There are no reports of any injuries.”


Metal barriers have been put in place in front of the Houses of Parliament, blocking the pavement.
